A BYRON BAY man who allegedly killed local DJ Chris Bradley at a Christmas Day party went to Sydney after his mate’s death.

Javen O’Neill, 24, was dramatically arrested by detectives as he touched down at Ballina Airport at 8.45am yesterday.

Tweed Byron Local Area Command Crime Manager Detective Inspector Brendon Cullen yesterday told the Gold Coast Bulletin the man was charged over the Christmas Day murder of Mr Bradley.

“He was refused bail at Ballina police station and will appear in Lismore Local Court (today),” he said.

Police will allege O’Neill assaulted Mr Bradley at a Christmas party in Carlyle Street, Byron Bay about 11.30pm. They believe the well-known DJ collapsed from injuries related to the alleged attack.

Emergency services were called and attempted to resuscitate Mr Bradley but he died on the floor soon after they arrived.

Detective Inspector Cullen said alcohol was believed to be a factor in the incident.

A DJ and owner of events and artist management company Atypical, Mr Bradley, also known as B-Rad, moved to Byron eight years ago and studied audio engineering at the SAE Institute Byron Bay.

He was a regular behind the decks spinning house, electro, hip hop, RnB and rap at clubs and venues including The Brewery, the Great Northern Hotel and La La Land in Byron and Elsewhere and Aloha Bar on the Gold Coast.

Mr Bradley’s heartbroken younger sister Maddie Bradley remembered her brother as “an amazing man” who lit up the room with his “quirky personality and laugh”.

O’Neill is a Byron Bay local and is believed to have been friends with Mr Bradley.
