HAYNE SIDESTEPS WAITING MEDIA
BESIEGED rugby league star Jarryd Hayne touched down at Sydney Airport at 6.30am yesterday after a trip to Tel Aviv, but it wasn’t the entrance he would normally have made.
The 29-year-old was ushered out the side exit, often used by celebrities and politicians, by federal police to avoid the media.
NRL gender adviser Professor Catharine Lumby said this week the former Gold Coast Titan should step aside from the game until sexual assault allegations against him, which he denied, were dealt with in a US civil court.
“It is my view that anyone in a high-profile public position, be they a football player or a senior person in an organisation, if they are accused of a serious allegation, they should take it upon themselves to step aside until they are cleared.”
The NRL integrity unit is set to question Hayne after his NRL club Parramatta said it knew nothing of the allegations until they were made public in California.
