Mel ready to strike it lucky with Bosanova
GOLD Coast trainer Mel Eggleston stumbled on to tomorrow’s Magic Millions wildcard possibility for All Over Bosanova in the Nudgee Stakes almost by mistake.
All Over Bosanova was a black-type winner during the Queensland winter carnival and Eggleston feels in time she is capable of winning a Group race.
But the chance to run for $1 million on Magic Millions day at the Gold Coast on January 13 possibility.
“Originally when I was planning this preparation I thought we would resume on the 16th of December and then go into this stakes race second-up,” Eggleston said.
“It wasn’t until I saw the clause in the nominations that I knew about (the wildcard for Magic Millions).
“I then thought, ‘wouldn’t that be nice if we could get her into a $1 million race’.”
All Over Bosanova, the winner of five of her nine as an enticing starts, comes into the Nudgee after a solid first-up second to Pinch River, who runs in the Falvelon Quality tomorrow.
“With the winter campaign, I was only able to give her two weeks’ break in order to have her ready in time, so it was a big effort for her to win that race at the end of it,” said Eggleston, referring to the Daybreak Lover Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on June 10.
“This time we were able to give her a nice long break and bring her along slowly.
“We will just give her the two or three runs this time and then look at the winter again, but this time with the right amount of time to get ready for it.”
The Godolphin stable won a Magic Millions wildcard entry for Kinshachi in the Nudgee last year – she then ran seventh in the Fillies and Mares race at the Coast – and under new trainer James Cummings, they have solid representation again.
Kinshachi is back chasing another Magic Millions Fillies and Mares wildcard with stablemate and one-time Stradbroke Handicap fancy Ghisoni, who last raced when running a close second at Geelong in October.
