Rohrer ready to go after nasty blow

-

BEN Rohrer hopes to be fit for Sydney Thunder’s match against the Hobart Hurricanes tomorrow despite receiving a nasty blow to his collar bone.

Rohrer was at the crease in Wednesday night’s match at the Gabba when his teammate Callum Ferguson smashed the ball straight at him at the nonstriker’s end.

The ball caused the area above Rohrer’s collarbone to bruise and swell and the Thunder batsman wasn’t able to take further part in the match.

But after doctors initially ruled out any fractures, Rohrer says he should be OK to play.

“I think the collarbone saved it from the flush blow on the windpipe, but once I took a breath I was able to swallow,” he said.

“Hopefully all good to play, throwing will be the biggest issue.”

Rohrer has suffered some hefty injuries while at the crease. Most notably he copped a brutal bouncer a few years ago that knocked him out and saw him rushed to hospital for scans.

But he says none of those memories came back when he fell to the ground after being struck by Ferguson.

“Not really, it’s just the nature of the game,” he said.

“In T20 you know balls are going to come flying around your head from whichever end, it’s just something you know is going to happen. It all happened so quickly and I think he (Ferguson) was a bit pissed off it cost him four runs.”
