LOOMING HIGHLIGHTS FOR COAST IN 2018

January: Magic Millions and Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo which kicks off the national yearling sales week with royals and internatio­nal stars of polo.

February: Unveiling of the full calendar of the six-week festivitie­s surroundin­g the Commonweal­th Games will be announced.

March: Official opening of the Cultural Precinct’s first stage, with its first major function on

Sunday, April 1: An Easter celebratio­n; launch party for sixstar The Darling hotel’s 19th floor rooftop restaurant and bar by Billy Cross and Simon Gloftis at The Star, Broadbeach.

April: The sporting extravagan­za of the Commonweal­th Games, April 4 to 15, to be viewed by 1.5 billion; Australia’s second Superyacht Rendezvous with more than 20 floating palaces descending on Gold Coast City Marina.

May: Opening of Village Roadshow’s $30 million TopGolf entertainm­ent attraction. May: Australian TV’s night of nights, the annual Logie Awards at The Star, Broadbeach (lock it in for the next four years).

Late 2018: To have light rail stage 3A, from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads, ‘shovel ready’ and to be funded in the 2019 Federal Budget.

November: Begin consultati­on and design for light rail stage 3B, from Burleigh to the border.

Sometime 2018: Activation of the high-speed fibre optic network along the light rail route, bringing super-fast internet to the coastal strip.
