Taylor’s cousin set for a Titanic battle

KIAH Cooper has play for this year.

Unlike his celebrated cousin Ash Taylor, who is on the big bucks at the Titans for at least the next four seasons, Cooper has arrived on the Gold Coast battling to ignite his promising rugby league career.

A talented outside back who prefers playing in the centres, Cooper left the Roosters as an under-20 it all to graduate to take up a 12month development contract with Gold Coast.

“They only offered for one year so I have got to try to show them to get re-signed,” Cooper said.

“It’s a good opportunity here – way better than what it would have been at the Roosters if I stayed there.”

Titans feeder side Tweed Heads have already trumpeted that Cooper will be aligned to their club.

Cup performances can put him in a position to push for an NRL debut.

He’s already absorbed plenty of good habits from living with Taylor since moving north.

“It’s been good. He’s such a professional sort of guy,” Cooper said.

“Coming from 20s, we don’t have none of that sort of stuff but coming with him it’s a real good change.

“He is always eating vegies and stuff like that for dinner. Good meals to try to keep you going for the next day.”

Cooper is from Dirranbandi in southwest Queensland, 95km from St George where Taylor hails from.

Taylor is now the face of the Titans and he believes Cooper can be a valuable addition.

“He has got a good step and good fend,” Taylor said.

“He has got to train hard and show the coach that he really wants to play this season.

“It might not be Round 1, it might not be Round 25, it might be Round 26.

“When he gets that call, I’m sure he is going to take it with both hands and prove his worth.”
