STOCKWELL SEEKS TOP GRADE SPOT

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

FRONT-ROW recruit Jack Stockwell hopes a change of scenery to the Gold Coast can ignite his NRL career.

Stockwell, 25, joined the Titans in the off-season after three-year top-grade stints at St George Illawarra and Newcastle totalling 63 games.

He appeared to have a breakout campaign in 2013 for the Dragons when he played 20 matches, but has not tallied more than a dozen games in a season since.

“Over the last few years I have obviously had a few injuries and what not that have set me back,” he said.

“I’d play half a season and then have a setback so I want to establish myself up here as one of the dominant front-rowers and hopefully have a good season.”

From his initial talks with Titans coach Garth Brennan, Stockwell feels every chance of spending plenty of time in the club’s top 17 this year.

“It’s kind of an open playing field at the moment with all the boys so it’s just whatever we put in at training,” said the Picton (NSW) product, who idolised legendary Maroons prop Steve Price.
