Celebs come out to play on a glorious Gold Coast summer’s day

THE sun was shining, the champagne was flowing and the celebs were spotted as more than 2000 spectators enjoyed the polo at Main Beach yesterday.

Punters descended on The Spit from all over the country to mingle with the likes of Zara Phillips, sports stars, models and industy identities – even Mayor Tom Tate was seen getting among the action.

The weather really turned it on for punters like Bliss Coster, 29, who was having a well deserved girls day out with friends, enjoying “just a few champagnes”.

“We’ve been sipping champagne, it’s been a fabulous day,” she said.

The style stakes were high in this year’s fashions on the field but there was a bit of a “Steve Harvey” moment when the winner was wrongly called out as the third place getter.

Emma Read, 38, was announced as the third place getter, only to be told to step back in line as “good things are yet to come” before being announced as the winner.

She graciously accepted the title wearing a champagne gold Shieke dress with a 1940s vintage men’s Boller hat from New York.

The Robina local said she went for a more “classic look” this year after placing third in the competition last year.

Men’s fashions winner Sam Grimley, who wore loafers, charcoal grey shorts, a white linen shirt and beige jacket, said he had better give fiance Mary the credit for his win.

“She dressed me and created this winning outfit,” he said.

The ensemble consisted of pieces from Heringbone and items purchased in Italy

Among the punters was the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips and her rugby star husband, Mike Tindall.

The pair, who are expecting a baby, were among a host of famous faces who attended the three-game event.

Racing expert Francesca Cumani wore an off-the-shoulder yellow frock with a red flower print and a fashionably sun-smart wide brimmed hat.

Model and international DJ Brooke Evers was behind the decks, entertaining crowds.
