Flood work continuing

-

THE third round of flood repairs in the Tweed Shire are about to start after another contract was awarded to complete the works.

Cost of the flood damage has been estimated to be almost $30 million.

The Tweed Shire Council is still completing minor to medium size works following the floods last March and April.

The $1.35 million contract awarded to Hazell Bros will include repairs to 29 roads across the region and fixes to more than 80 damaged items.

The council has already completed more than 1000 minor road and bridge damage fixes at a cost of about $5.5 million.

About $20 million of the flood repair bill is expected to be recovered through Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Assistance and through grant funding.
