GOLD COAST WRAP WITH UBET’S NICOLE THOMAS

-

INNERS

■ Sunlight (Race 2)

Sunlight’s win couldn’t have been more impressive. The punters were with the talented 2YO filly, backing her from $1.75 in to $1.50. It was an easy watch as she cruised to the lead, pushed the button in the straight and gapped them by five lengths. She’s now second favourite in the Magic Millions 2YO classic.

■ Aqua Vite (Race 7)

Aqua Vite had a better run in transit this time and the savvy punters nabbed the $4.60 early and he started clear favourite at $3.60. It was a super win, as he gave Slydini 3½ lengths start before the turn but still managed to head him in the final furlong. LOSERS

■ Cruze (Race 6)

Cruze was a disappointing favourite, and although drifting from $3 out to $3.40, there was still plenty of betting interest. There were no excuses either, he got a charmed run trailing the leader third the fence but weakened in the straight.

■ Cantbuybetter (Race 7)

You couldn’t give away tickets on Cantbuybetter, so he drifted from $4 out to $6 and ran accordingly. Although caught wide early, he still weakened terribly and was hard-ridden at the 300m mark. The trainer indicated to stewards that the horse was now most likely to be going for a spell. NEXT TIME

■ Crusher (Race 1)

There was no shortage of big bets on Crusher but the heavily supported favourite ($2.70$2.50) was in trouble early. He couldn’t cross them and consequently got posted out three-wide but still finished the race off nicely in third. Don’t discard.

■ Dream Kisses and Susurri (Race 5)

There were two excellent runs from Race 5. Firstly, Dream Kisses ($11 in to $9) copped a tough trip on the speed threewide facing the breeze but still bravely fought out the finish. Huge run. Susurri is also worth a mention ($6 out to $8), she was four-wide at the back and hit the line well.

■ Prue’s Angel (Race 9)

Prue’s Angel was hugely popular, backed from $10 in to $7.50 and she looked a little unlucky. She sat three-wide early, had nowhere to go in the straight so ducked and weaved through the field and hit the line untested.

■ Zumbelina (Race 8)

There was a late plunge on Zumbelina, shortening her from $5.50 in to $4.60. She sat quietly midfield, popped off the fence in the straight to hit the line well but wasn’t knocked about. She’s probably getting close to a win. BIG BETS
