A GOLD Coast man is in hospital with gunshot wounds after he was attacked by four people on his front lawn yesterday afternoon.

Police last night revealed three men and a woman – armed with a gun and metal pole – assaulted a Carrara man on Plateau Crescent about 4pm before fleeing.

The 44-year-old victim suffered injuries to his left arm and chest and is in a stable condition at Gold Coast University Hospital.

A woman and a child who were also at the house were uninjured, police said.

A few neighbours came out with water and food for the young boy, who had been crying on the driveway in his mother’s arms.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said he saw a green car speed past when he went out.

“I was in absolute shock,” the neighbour said. “It’s not something you expect to happen on an idle Monday afternoon.

“To be honest, because was just one loud bang it I thought it was a motorbike or something making a loud noise.

“When I went back inside and turned the television on I realised it was a bit more sinister.

“It’s usually a quiet street, nothing really happens here.”

Four paramedic crews, including a high-acuity response unit and critical care paramedic, treated the man before he was taken to the hospital.

Area councillor Bob La Castra said he was horrified to hear what had happened on the “family friendly” street.

“I know that street very well,” Cr La Castra said. “There are some very nice houses and very nice people living there and the residents would know it’s a quiet place, so for this to happen it would have really shaken everyone.

“All I can say to residents is don’t be alarmed and don’t approach anyone suspicious. Call the police if you have any concerns.

“It’s such a good suburb and this is very sad news, you don’t expect this to ever happen.”
