Jackman lands Billboard consolation

- ALISON STEPHENSON

HE might have missed out on taking home a Best Actor gong at the Golden Globes yesterday, but Hugh Jackman still had reason to celebrate.

The Aussie actor’s latest film The Greatest Showman not only took home the Globe for Best Original Song, but the soundtrack reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album’s swift rise knocked Ed Sheeran’s Divide and Taylor Swift’s Reputation to number two and three.

The soundtrack became the first theatrically released musical film soundtrack to hit No. 1 since 2015.

It was also the first album to hit the top spot without debuting at No. 1 in a year.

Jackman said on the red carpet he was considering swapping his acting career for a musical one.

“Thanks to anyone who downloaded or bought because we just today were announced as No. 1 on the Billboard charts,” he said.

“I’m walking around with an entourage and sunglasses ... this is my last anything to do with movies. I’m out. I’m all about the Grammys.”

Jackman was beaten by The Disaster Artist’s James Franco for the Best Actor, Musical or Comedy gong.

The Greatest Showman songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul nabbed the best original song award for This Is Me, the same award they won last year for La La Land’s City of Stars.
