IT’S FUN IN THE SUN – BUT NOT FOR LONG

- HANNAH SBEGHEN hannah.sbeghen@news.com.au

THERE will be nothing but blue skies and sunshine on the Gold Coast this week but soak it up because forecasters warn it won’t stick around for long.

With a heatwave travelling through the state most parts of Queensland will be sweating it out while the Coast will be slightly cooler with temperatures not reaching above 30C.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts a low intensity heatwave over the next couple of days due to a warm air mass moving up from NSW.

The hot conditions in southern Queensland will be felt by all unless you’re close to a beach.

Gold Coasters will enjoy mostly sunny skies from today until Thursday with a top of 30C at the seaway in Surfers Paradise and 31C inland in Nerang and Coomera. The rain is expected to return for the weekend.

“Wednesday will be one of the warmest days this week but there will be rains over the weekend and possible thunderstorms,” Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Annabelle Ford said.

“Saturday doesn’t look too wet, there will probably be about 5mm and more if there is a thunderstorm but otherwise it’ll be the odd shower. Sunday will be the wet one with more than 10mm of rain predicted.”

Among those making the most of the sunshine are Zara Free, Ella Travis and Leah Penrose, who chose to spend the day having a splash.

Belinda Free said her daughter and her friends chose Aquasplash over a trip to the cinemas. “It wasn’t a hard choice when the weather is this great,” she said.
