Fake news awards

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has delayed his so-called Fake News Awards until January 17, as comedians vie to snaffle one of the honours. “The interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipate­d!” Mr Trump wrote on Twitter. He had initially planned the “awards” for yesterday, saying they would cover “Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories”.

Oil tanker burning

SEOUL: A tanker carrying Iranian oil that collided with a Chinese freight ship in the East China Sea on the weekend is still ablaze. The Sanchi tanker, run by Iran’s top oil shipping operator, collided with the CF Crystal about 160 nautical miles off China’s coast near Shanghai and the mouth of the Yangtze River Delta on Saturday.

Tourist in rampage

BANGKOK: A naked tourist has been arrested after overdosing on Viagra before running around naked at an internatio­nal airport. United States resident Steve Cho wandered through the departure hall of Phuket Internatio­nal Airport in Thailand before stripping naked, yelling

incoherent­ly and throwing his own faeces. The 27-year-old was arrested and said he was unaware of his antics because he had taken too many “sex drugs”.

Slur on Becker son

BERLIN: Tennis great Boris Becker says it’s time to stand up against racism amid controvers­y over a slur directed at his son from the Twitter account of a German nationalis­t MP. Becker questioned the claim by Alternativ­e for Germany’s Jens Maier that the tweet, which called Noah Becker a “little half negro”, was posted by a member of his staff.
