VENUES TAKING SHAPE AS DATE DRAWS CLOSER

- MARK PETERS CHIEF EXECUTIVE

LAST week on January 4 marked three months until our Opening Ceremony. It was an enormous privilege to be there with two of our Australian track and field athletes when they were the first two athletes to step on to the just-completed international federationaccredited track at Carrara Stadium.

Our hometown hero hurdles champion Sally Pearson and decathlete Cedric Dubler could do little to contain their excitement as they stood on the 100m start line and looked up at the amazing transformation works to create their field of dreams.

Walking the track with Sally and Cedric certainly brought it home to myself and Acting Commonwealth Games Minister Di Farmer that GC2018 is indeed the athletes’ Games.

Back from our holiday breaks, the GOLDOC team is doing everything we can to make sure that nothing is left to chance with our final preparations over the coming 84 days.

The Coomera Indoor Sports Centre and Oxenford Studio conversions to Games venues began straight after the new year while the venue construction for beach volleyball at Queen Elizabeth Park at Coolangatta began on Monday.

Works are also well under way at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre to provide seating for swimming and diving while work at the Carrara Indoor Sports Centre and Gold Coast Hockey Centre begin next week.

Some 60,000 temporary seats will be installed across various venues.

Amazingly, well over

YES, THE GC2018 GO BUTTON HAS WELL AND TRULY BEEN PRESSED

1000 temporary structures will be used across all venues.

Motorists travelling along Smith St will no doubt have seen all the activity going on at the Commonwealth Games Village to make it ready to greet its first very special occupants on March 25.

Yes, the GC2018 GO button has well and truly been pressed and for more information on activity in your local area visit getsetforthegames.com.
