ISLE OF MAN WHEELS IN BIG CYCLING GUN
INTERNATIONAL cycling star Mark Cavendish will spearhead Isle of Man’s team for GC2018 with the 32year-old selected last week for his second Commonwealth Games.
While just across the Irish Sea, shooting competitor David Calvert has been selected for his 11th Com- monwealth Games as part of the Northern Ireland team.
One of the greats of world cycling with 44 Grand Tour Stage wins, Cavendish will be part of the 32-strong Isle of Man team aiming to add to the three gold, two silver and six bronze medals they have won in the past.
Isle of Man will be represented in eight sports – athletics, badminton, cycling, gymnastics, lawn bowls, shooting, swimming and triathlon.
The country, located in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland with a population of just over 84,000, has fielded a team at every Commonwealth Games since 1958.
