Stars align to do battle in Showdown

DARTING royalty has arrived in Brisbane for the inaugural Pro Darts Showdown Series.

Australia’s No.1 and No.2 players – Simon Whitlock and Kyle Anderson – dropped into the Courier-Mail yesterday to sign memorabili­a and meet fans ahead of the first night’s action tonight at the RNA Convention Centre. Whitlock and Anderson will be joined by 16-time world champion and recent world title runner-up Phil “The Power” Taylor, who was due to arrive in Queensland last night.

Whitlock, who will play the first two legs of the series in Brisbane and the Gold Coast because of commitment­s with the Profession­al Darts Corporatio­n tour, said he was glad to be part of the first showdown series.

“I have been quite excited for a long time to come here for this,” he said.

“It’s always good to come back to my own country to promote the game and play against some of the best players in the world.”

Also on show in Brisbane will be former world championsh­ip runner-up Andy Hamilton, South African No.1 Devon Petersen, America’s top player John Kuzcynski.

After Brisbane the Pro Series moves to Gold Coast on January 17-18, Townsville on January 24-25 and Mackay on January 27-28.
