THE Burleigh Pro Surf Festival is back with the popular event making some tweaks to improve even more in 2018.

Queensland’s stand-alone World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) event, which runs over four days, will feature a festival-style set-up over the Australia Day long weekend as crowds flock to one of Australia’s most iconic point breaks.

The QS1000 event will attract some of the best male and female surfers from around the world, all vying for precious QS points.

It is estimated that more than nine countries will be represented when the event starts on January 25.

Surfing Queensland chief executive Adam Yates has witnessed the growth of the event over the years and said that the event has been significantly bolstered in 2018.

“The Burleigh Pro has always been one of the biggest and most exciting events on the Surfing Queensland calendar,” he said.

“This year we have made some major changes to the site precinct as well as adding lots of entertainment that will really benefit both the competitors and the wider community.”

The Burleigh Pro Men’s and Women’s QS1000 will run from January 25-28.

Tweed’s Owen Wright was a popular winner in the men’s event last year after overcoming injury to compete, beating Matt Wilkinson in the final.
