SEAHAWKS FLY HIGH TO OPEN TITLES TILT
THE Seahawks will head into day two of the Under-16 State Basketball Titles armed with one of the competition’s most in-form weapons after Emile De La Rey’s 40-point opening blitzkrieg.
The remarkable domination of North Gold Coast’s boys division 3 side was one of the talking points yesterday after day one of the 51team event at the Carrara Indoor Sports Centre.
On the back of an even spread of scorers – six players hit double figures – the Seahawks thumped Sunshine Coast Rip 109-22 as Cooper McElrea (20 points) and De La Rey (19) led the way.
In the afternoon Group D fixture, they backed it up to trounce Toowoomba Neers 75-30 with De La Rey finishing with 21 buckets in a onetwo punch that stamps his potential. Elsewhere in division 3, the Rollers edged Phoenix Orange 44-36 in a perfect warm-up for today’s games against Redlands Roar (9.30am) and Logan Storm Blue (2pm).
In some of today’s other matches, the Seahawks’ boys division 2 team faces Northside Wizards (11am) and Southern District Titans (5pm), while the Gold Coast Waves division 1 squad line up against Northside Wizards (9.30am) and Ipswich Force (3.30pm).
