Pushed over business deal gone bad

-

A MAN pushed his former business partner down the stairs at the Garden Bar at the Star Casino in Broadbeach in an attempt get money he says he is owed.

Gene Edward Corbett, 46, walked from Southport Magistrates Court yesterday with no conviction recorded after pleading guilty to assault and failing to comply with a police direction to provide fingerprints. The court heard Corbett approached his former business partner at the Garden Bar on July 29 last year as asked him where his money was.

After an expletive riddled response, Corbett pushed the victim a number of times, including the two steps in the outdoor area of the bar.

Defence barrister Chris Rosser said Corbett had not meant to hit the man but was enraged by what had happened.

Mr Rosser said Corbett had lost about $15,000 in payments for work never completed. He said Corbett had been speaking to police about the matter.

Magistrate Gary Finger fined Corbett $900 and no conviction was recorded.
