Bail for alleged burglar

- LEA EMERY

A TOWNSVILLE man who allegedly broke into the same Isle of Capri home twice in one day, claiming it was his parents’, has been released on bail.

Corie Lemuel Taylor, 39, faced Southport Magistrates Court again yesterday charged with burglary, wilful damage and assault.

The release has exasperated the son of the Amalfi Dr homeowners.

Police will allege Taylor broke into the home on the morning of December 27 and after being released by police returned about 10.30pm.

It is alleged he threw a lamp at the son of the homeowners after being disturbed.

Taylor applied for bail last week but was denied because Magistrate Gary Finger believed he would likely fail to appear in court and reoffend.

Duty lawyer Jodi Allen, of Buckland Allen Criminal Lawyers, yesterday applied for bail, saying Taylor’s circumstances had changed.

He was legally allowed to apply for bail because he had pleaded guilty to breaching bail and had been punished for that.

Ms Allen said Taylor wanted to return to his home in Townsville.

“He tells me he does have the financial capacity to return to Townsville,” Ms Allen said.

“He is willing to report to Townsville police station.”

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair granted Taylor bail on the provision he return to Townsville today and report regularly to police.

The son of the homeowners reluctantly accepted the decision. “What do you do?” he said. “If that’s the decision then that’s the decision.”

He said his parents were still cleaning up after the break-in.
