Flyers back in the nest at Seagulls

-

TWO familiar faces have returned to the Piggabeen nest for Tweed Heads’ new Queensland Cup era.

With Ben Woolf replacing Aaron Zimmerle as coach and an incoming chief executive officer soon to be announced, it will be a new-look Seagulls this year.

Woolf has recruited a number of players from the NSW Cup as well as rising stars around the Gold Coast and now former flyers Ali Grant and Shaun Carney have been confirmed as back on deck.

After spending a mountain of time on the sidelines in the past two seasons due to back and pectoral injuries, fullback Grant featured in Ballina’s premiership-winning side in the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League competition last year.

Outside back Carney meanwhile has switched between Tweed and Cup rivals Norths on multiple occasions including a mid-season transfer to the Devils in 2016.

He lined up for NRRRL battlers Mullumbimby on seven occasions last year.

“He pretty much had 12 months off last year,” Woolf said.“He is 26 now … he is keen to give it another crack and see where he is at.”
