Bonus prizemoney could light up Fung’s day

THE Magic Millions 2YO Classic could prove a lucrative race for horse owner Loretta Fung, the wife of Aquis owner and Hong Kong billionaire Tony.

Loretta Fung is among the all-female owners of $4 fav- ourite Sunlight and $19 chance Secret Lady, two of the four horses in the 16-horse field eligible to share in $500,000 bonus prizemoney.

The bonus prizemoney is an initiative to highlight and promote the racehorse ownership among women and will be paid to the top four all-female owned horses in the race.

If the two horses owned by Fung – who arrives on the Gold Coast today – finish in the top two tomorrow, the total winnings for the connections would hit $1,995,000.

“It’s not a bad effort and Loretta is looking forward to it,” Aquis CEO Shane McGrath said.

“Mr and Mrs Fung will be on track for the big day and between the handful of Aquis runners, if we could happen to land one on the big day it would be enormous.”

But McGrath said money wasn’t the key driver for Fung who is eager to help build women’s racing and the Aquis brand.

“Everything we are tyring to do at Aquis is to keep the interest and expose the beauty of racing horses for non-horse people in Hong Kong,” McGrath said.

“The publicity it can generate is the big kicker for that.

“It’s one of the smartest initiatives in women’s racing because it brings people in to racing.”
