I could be completely off track here, but ... am I the only person to whom 'bikies' are at the forefront of my mind, regarding the latest shootings? Or is that being kept quiet, weeks (and streets), away from the Games? Concerned resident.

Regarding the truce with bike riders. It isn't going to happen if what I witnessed keeps going. A couple of weeks ago I was waiting in my car at the main lights on the highway at Burleigh. A bike rider pulled up then rode straight through the red light. I yelled out its red and I got verbally abused and given the finger.

Shark huggers use the argument shark nets that protect humans both physically and psychologically catch other marine life. The last time I looked, sharks ate humans, marine, bird and wildlife, domestic animals, outboard motors, etc. Aren't shark nets and drum lines doing the aforementioned a favour? Lookout.

Just read about 'M1 Problems' (GCB 12/1). What happened to the lane 4 rule that it was only an overtaking lane. Police used to drive in this lane to move the traffic freely. Haven't seen this happening for a long time. Has this been a forgotten rule? Mermaid Waters driver.

There is nothing stopping a car mounting the Surfers Paradise Blvd footpath between Cavill Ave & Q1 on its west side. There is no shade or trees either. Why not anchor some big colourful planter pots along the kerb? Plant some Norfolk pines in them. Safety and shade, and they won't touch the passing trams. Zz

When my friend's wife was in GCU Hospital he rode his bike to visit because of the parking issues. It was secured at the tram station but then stolen. I wonder if that is a smorgasbord for bike thieves? Grandma

The tax bill for keeping offenders in prison is enormous. Wouldn't it make sense at greatly reduced cost to us is to contract out to countries such as China or Malaysia, the responsibility of keeping our prisoners for the duration of their sentence. Those offenders might think twice about committing crimes, knowing they may be incarcerated in such prisons.

Black Swan Lake should be preserved in its entirety as a valuable urban bush and wetland habitat. Habitat throughout the city is at a premium. Displaced birds will die as a result of this ill-conceived project.
