GOLD COAST WRAP WITH UBET’S NICOLE THOMAS
WINNERS
■ I’m A Rippa (Race 3)
In one of the biggest plunges on race day, the well-named I’m A Rippa was $9.50 at midday but that price was shredded into $6.50. The Tony Gollan-trained gelding went straight to the lead and had some competition early in the straight from She’s Miss Devine but ran clear in the final stages.
■ Care To Think (Race 6)
Care To Think has to be one of the most impressive horses going around and a favourite with punters. The generous $4 offered early was quickly obliterated and he started $3.10. It was another superstar performance from the tough four-year-old because he copped another rough trip sitting three wide facing the breeze and was again too strong.
LOSERS
■ Dinnigan (Race 1)
Punters ran away from Dinnigan at the short odds-on quote and drifted her out to a much healthier $2.50. Once the threeyear-old filly went past even money, a few brave punters placed big bets on her, including one of $4000 at $2.20. It was a disappointing run though because she was gone early in the straight and only battled away for fourth. ■ Sedanzer (Race 4)
UBET held come serious bets on the hugely popular Sedanzer, opening up $2.90 on race day and shortening into $2.40. It was a tough watch if you were on because you thought she was getting headed in the straight but fought on tenaciously and looked the winner everywhere but the post.
NEXT TIME
■ Jonker and Nomothaj (Race 8) Exciting two-year-old Jonker was a drifter early but a truckload of late money tightened him in to $4.80. Unfortunately, Jonker was a victim of catastrophic interference, hitting the running rail and was out of contention early.
Nomothaj (solid at $9) was following Jonker and also hit the running rail, spearing into horses on her outside, but stuck on well. Other horses that might’ve finished better if it wasn’t for the interference were Bondi, Meryl and Witherspoon.
■ Secret Trial and Fit For Purpose (Race 3) There were two excellent runs to come out of I’m A Rippa’s race. Secret Trail ($15-$10) sat out three wide without cover, remaining wide the entire way but still fought out the finish. It was an eye-catching effort from Fit For Purpose ($11-$12), who sailed down the outside from last to grab third.
■ Global Glamour (Race 5) Punters had a premonition it would not be Global Glamour’s day on Saturday because she drifted from $2.90 to $3.60. The classy four-year-old mare had to lug the big weight and what made matters worse, she got parked out three wide and was forced to cover ground. She still only finished three lengths off the winner and was far from disgraced.
