Drug grown ‘for illness’
A GOLD Coast man who grew cannabis to self-medicate has been placed on probation for 18 months.
Stephen White, a spare parts salesman supervisor, pleaded guilty in Southport District Court to one count each of producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and possession items used in the commission of a crime.
The court heard police found seven cannabis plants during a raid of White’s property on February 18 last year.
“You state in a letter that it was because of a quite serious illness that you acted to grow (the cannabis),” Judge Katherine McGuinness said.
She said White was now seeking help from Gold Coast University Hospital. No conviction was recorded.
