Campers caught out

MORE than 1100 illegal campers and parkers in the Byron Shire were slugged with infringements over the Christmas and New Year period.

The Byron Shire Council said 11 officers worked long hours over the holiday period to crack down on illegal campers.

“(We want) to let these people know that setting up vans and camping on beaches and in residential streets is not okay any time of the year,” said council’s director of sustainable environment and economy Shannon Burt.
