SOCIAL MEDIA STAR SCOUT’S BARKING UP THE RIGHT TREE

- EMILY SELLECK

A GOLD Coast pup, who boasts more followers than most humans, is making a name for himself on social media.

The Blue English staffy named Scout has been gaining nearly 1000 Instagram followers every month since his (human) mum created the account. Mum Jacqueline Bojanowski, a publicist at Ruby Communications, said fivemonth-old Scout had a fan base of close to 3000 people.

“I started doing it as a personal album because I knew he would grow so quickly, but didn’t really expect it to take off,” she said.

“We do invest a fair bit of time into interacting with other pages (and) he has little play dates with other dogs we’ve met on Instagram.

“There’s one follower who is obsessed with him. She messages the page saying she waits all day for him to post a photo, it’s very sweet.”

Ms Bojanowski said the trick to creating a successful account for your pet was to give them a unique voice.

“Dogs are funny in that you can see their whole thought process,” she said.

“So we thought it would be fun to be a bit candid and just imagine what he’s thinking. His tone of voice is what sets him apart, people say they feel like they’re actually talking to him.

“We’re really not sure if he knows he’s a dog. He definitely thinks he’s part human.”

Ms Bojanowski said Scout attracted up to 800 likes on his posts.

“Although he’s not massive, he is influential in his little community,” she said.

“We’ve been really lucky ... he’s been sent little bandannas and an amazing new bed. I actually trained him to sit for a photo using his favourite treats.”

Ms Bojanowski said there was a market for four-legged influencers, along with talent managers.

“I’m sure there are people out there who would hire someone to manage their pets’ Instagram account.”
