Hackers hit retailer for $76,000
QUEENSLAND businesses have been urged to be vigilant about cybercrime after a leading retailer became the victim of a $76,000 internet hacking attack.
Hackers, believed to be based in China, breached Brisbane-based Totally Workwear’s accounting system last October and changed the bank details of several of its suppliers.
The changes meant that payments totalling $76,096.56 were incorrectly made to fraudulent bank accounts.
Totally Workwear director Jim Hogan said the fraud was only identified when a creditor received remittance advice that showed funds were being sent to the wrong account.
A cyber security report released by telecommunications firm Telstra last year found that more than half of Australian businesses have at least one cyber security incident each month.
