OWNERS’ LOVE FOR MARRAKESH ECHOED BY HOLIDAYMAKERS

- HANNAH SBEGHEN

THE people have spoken and the numbers are in – Surfers Paradise’s Mediterranean-style Marrakesh is offically the best hotel on the Gold Coast.

It may not be the most expensive, have mega celebrity status or ooze Versace luxury but this hotel has won the hearts of hundreds of holidaymakers.

HotelsCombined.com.au has given the hotel a Regional Recognition of Excellence Award after its outstanding customer satisfaction ratings.

While the average rating of 984 Gold Coast hotels surveyed was 8.3, the Marrakesh scored 9.1.

Marrakesh Appartments bosses, Stuart and Mandy McMullan, a husband and wife team originally from Geelong, said they were blown away with the win.

The pair bought the property in December 2016 after spending two decades holidaying at the hotel for up to five weeks at a time.

“It was a dream come true because we always thought of the hotel as our second home. We’ve been so passionate about this place for so long,” Mrs McMullan said.

“To hear that our guests love it as much as we do and have been so outspoken about their great stays, it makes us really proud.”

Mr McMullan said the pair owned a business in Currumbin when they found out the hotel was for sale.

“We didn’t even give it a second chance, we sold our apartments at Currumbin and put every penny together to get the hotel,” he said.

“It was a dream come true and we will never sell it.”

The McMullans have recently spent $450,000 on upgrading the hotel’s pool.
