SCANLAN SHOOTS FOR GOLD NUMBER THREE

-

REIGNING Commonwealth champion Laetisha Scanlan is hopeful her meticulous planning and routine will lead to more success in trap shooting at GC2018.

The 27-year-old from Melbourne has been nominated by Shooting Australia for selection to compete at a third Commonwealth Games.

Scanlan won gold in the trap pairs at Delhi 2010 and then individual trap at Glasgow 2014.

She said mental preparation will be a major focus for her with the preliminaries and final for trap shooting held on one day.

“You can go to the range and shoot as many targets as you want but you can’t really replicate the pressure you get mentally in competition mode,” Scanlan said.

“The targets go 100km per hour so you only have one to two seconds with a slim margin for error.”

Scanlan relies on routine to manage the stress of competition.

“I’ve seen a number of sports psychologists to help me deal with the mental side. They also help me with sticking to my routine.”

The GC2018 shooting competition will be held at Belmont Shooting Centre in Brisbane with the individual trap event scheduled for Friday 13 April.

The Australian shooters for GC2018 will be confirmed by Commonwealth Games Australia in the coming weeks.
