GRAY’S MIX OF POWER AND PERFECTION
THE GC2018 para powerlifting will captivate crowds at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre on Tuesday, April 10, with not just strength on display but faultless technique.
Leading Australian powerlifter Jessica Gray, who holds the national 73kg class record, explains the scrutiny that the three officials place on each athlete’s bench press technique.
“If by any chance, when you’re coming down to put it (the bar) on your chest, if it does a little bounce on your chest, it wobbles, that’s out,” Gray said.
“And on the way up, if your elbows are not even, then it’s out as well. There’s so many technical things.”
Gray will rely on a combination of power and technique to lift enough weight in the required three lifts to claim her first Games medal.
