WHAT YOU SAID ON FACEBOOK

A report about controversial new ads asking Gold Coasters to walk or cycle during the Commonwealth Games remained our most talked about story yesterday.

Andrea Kanserski: These Commonwealth organisers need to take some “reality” pills plus lose the condescending tone! We local are very much thinking ahead and fully understand the impact on us and our community. It’s you organisers who have your heads so far up each other’s rears that you’ve lost touch with reality!

Janet Crew: Not everyone can walk or ride a bike.. or walk the distance to public transport. Once again the locals are pushed aside for tourists. Kylie O’Brien: In Currumbin, when they did a practice set up of the bike track, locals weren’t even able to get out of there streets. As a parent with a child with a disability we are going to be trapped in our home for weeks. And you can forget about going to work.

Dave Tait: Are the banks etc going to give us a relief from mortgages etc if we can’t get around due to traffic issues? And have to either take time off or reduce production due to traffic snarls. It’s all very well saying walk to work or get staff to take a holiday but running a small business is hard enough.

Jojo Cee: Clutch the pearls! How dare you suggest to people to ride bikes, especially tradies. They’ll have to tell themselves to pay rego!

Sunny Smith: I’m a tradie and a bike ride with drills, tool bags, cable box, ladder is not possible. We work 12-14 hrs a day by car. Imagine that by bike.

Tanya Daley: The whole ad makes the Gold Coast look like idiots.
