Davison relishes drive down memory lane

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

COMING off “one of the most difficult years” he’s experienced, Will Davison will have a welcome boost when he launches the sixth chapter of his Supercars career in March.

The Gold Coaster has switched from Tekno Autosports to 23Red Racing, the sixth different team he has driven for on a full-time basis.

The new season will rev into action on March 1-4 in Adelaide, where the event’s 20-year anniversary will be celebrated in style.

A collection of 20 Supercars – one from each year since the Adelaide 500 was first held in 1999 – will do laps of the street circuit across the weekend. Among them will be the Dick Johnson Racing Falcon that took Davison to his maiden race win in 2008 at Eastern Creek.

“It’s hard to believe it has been 20 years … obviously the success of Supercars here has gone to a whole new level,” said Davison, who was in Adelaide yesterday for the announcement.

“So to see one of every car since the initial running of this event is going to be something really special and to know that my car from 2008, the car that took me to my first ever race victory with Dick Johnson Racing, to see it here like that is really cool to be honest.

“It gives you great feelings – I can’t wait to do a couple of cheeky laps in it.”

Davison, who won in Adelaide six years ago, placed 15th in the overall points in 2017.
