Fine for breaching Surfers ban

- LEA EMERY

A MAN who breached a ban from the Surfers Paradise Safe Night Precinct twice has been fined $450.

Brocq Adam Maybury, 33, pleaded guilty yesterday to two counts of breaching a banning order and one count each of being intoxicated in a public place and obstructing police.

The court heard Maybury was denied entry to the Beer Garden in Surfers Paradise just after midnight on August 9 last year because he did not have photo ID with him. He then began to “rant” at those near the nightclub about how police “were not nice people”.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Gorman said when police asked him to move on he refused and struggled when police attempted to arrest him.

Sgt Gorman said Maybury was issued with a ban from the Surfers Paradise Safe Night Precinct.

He was stopped trying to enter two different clubs while that notice was in place.

On both occasions Maybury said he “did not understand” the banning notice.

Defence lawyer Sunil Dutt said Maybury had since given up alcohol.
