O’KEEFFE: I WASN’T EXPECTING BUB NEWS
AFTER five years of negative results, Hot Tomato radio personality Emily Jade O’Keeffe didn’t expect her usual IVF appointment to be any different.
But it turned out to be one of the most extraordinary days of her life.
It’s official – the Coast radio star is having a baby.
“After five years it’s usually been just another appointment, so this came as a total shock,” she said. “We didn’t know this day would be any different from any other day.”
If it wasn’t for her six-yearold daughter, Millie Valentine, the day might never have come around for the Gold Coast family.
After a very public and emotional struggle to fall pregnant with IVF, O’Keeffe said there were a number of times she wanted to give up, but her daughter’s desperation to be a big sister kept the family focused.
Ms O’Keefe is 19 weeks pregnant and is expecting her new arrival in June.
“We had lost a baby in the past, so we wanted to make sure we didn’t say anything to Millie that would upset her if it didn’t work out,” she said.
“On Christmas Day when we were absolutely sure about the pregnancy ... we told Millie.”
Ms O’Keeffe said the journey was a long and heartbreaking one but she was glad she kept her head up.
“Sometimes the process feels lonely, because you’re just hoping and hoping for good news and you keep getting negative results.
“Now I look back at the times I thought about giving up and I’m glad I didn’t.
“You’ve just got to keep smiling, counting your blessings and remember life is great.”
