Reynolds eyes rare Bathurst double
DAVID Reynolds will chase a rare place in Mount Panorama folklore at next month’s Bathurst 12-Hour race.
Just three months ago, Reynolds took an upset victory in the Bathurst 1000, pulling off a David v Goliath performance driving for Betty Klimenko’s Erebus Motorsport squad.
Now the Supercars larrikin is switching his Penrite Holden for a Mercedes-AMG GT3, pairing with John Martin, Liam Talbot and car owner Mark Griffith in a Pro-Am class tilt at the sports car enduro.
Should the combination pull off an outright victory on February 4, Reynolds will join an elite club. Reynolds, 32, would be the ninth driver to win both the 12-Hour and the 1000, and only the third driver to win them back to back, joining Jonathon Webb and the late Gregg Hansford.
The car is the same one Reynolds raced in the event last year, when a damaged radiator cost he, Griffith and Kiwi racer Dominic Storey a top result.
Supercars drivers Jamie Whincup and Scott McLaughlin will also drive in the 12-Hour.
