AUSTRALIAN stage, film and TV great David Wenham will walk the red carpet when the Gold Coast hosts the Queensland premiere of his new film Ellipsis.

Presented by the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) and Gold Coast Film Festival, the premiere plays The Arts Centre Gold Coast on February 8 from 6.45pm.

Wenham and Ellipsis executive producer Rob Connelly will participate in an interactive Q&A following the premiere screening – a prelude to this year’s Gold Coast Film Festival, from April 17-29.

A small-budget indie ‘dramedy’ shot in seven days, Ellipsis marks Wenham’s featurelength directorial debut.

The film stars Emily Barclay and Benedict Samuel as strangers who spend a night on the town in Sydney, with Wenham describing it as a “love story” to Sydney.

An actor, writer, director and producer whose career spans more than 30 years, Wenham has worked with directors including Jane Campion, Peter Jackson, Michael Manns, Paul Cox and Baz Luhrmann.

He appeared alongside Nicole Kidman in the 2017 drama Lion, with Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem in the Gold Coast-filmed blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and played Faramir in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Wenham’s impressive list of TV credits includes the acclaimed drama Top of the Lake.

Tickets for the Ellipsis Q& A screening go on sale today via www.gcfilmfestival.com and cost $18 for adults and $15 for concessions.
