- MELANIE PETRINEC

EMBATTLED former rugby league star Jarrod McCracken has been slapped with criminal charges for allegedly travelling overseas while bankrupt.

McCracken, 47, who was declared bankrupt in 2013 with $15 million in debts related to his business ventures as a developer and nightclub owner in Townsville, is scheduled to face the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

It is understood the fallen property mogul, who was once reported to be worth $34 million, is accused of travelling to Bali without the consent of his bankruptcy trustee.

He is facing four charges of leaving Australia while an undischarged bankrupt and if convicted, could face prison or have his bankruptcy extended.

It comes as he is set to be called before a public examination to answer questions about his alleged involvement in a $20 million Townsville project linked to his son. FRASER Coast Regional Council mayor Chris Loft has faced court after being charged by Queensland’s Crime and Corruption Commission.

The 66-year-old, who is accused of misconduct in office while mayor, appeared before Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on yesterday only saying “good morning” when questioned outside by media.

He’s facing five charges, which include misconduct in office, disclosure of official secrets and computer hacking. The charges were laid by the CCC in November.

Loft is due to return to court on March 1.
