Hold off on that coffee

-

A MORNING coffee soon after we wake up is a ritual for many people.

But some health experts claim it could be better to hold off having that first cup for at least 90 minutes.

From the moment we wake, the body starts producing cortisol, a stress hormone that helps kickstart our day.

But caffeine interrupts this process, experts say, meaning a cup of coffee first thing barely boosts our wakefulness at all.

It is best to have your first coffee an hour to 90 minutes later, once the cortisol production has peaked.
