POPULAR NEW HEALTH FAD: DRINK MORE BEER
PUBLIC service announcement: dragon fruit beer is officially a thing and it’s so packed with healthy stuff that it’s basically a fruit salad.
Harajuku Gyoza at Broadbeach has brewed a limited release Yoyogi Pink Dragon Fruit Japanese Craft Beer and it could prove to be the perfect drink for summer.
Co-owner Andrew Jeffreys said each brew was made with 20kg of dragon fruit and 1kg of dried hibiscus.
“That’s what gives it the pink colour and fruity taste,” he said.
“It’s an original idea and the sales have been great ... it’s the perfect stand-alone summer drink but it also pairs nicely with our food.”
Mr Jeffreys said the fruity flavour was even winning over long-time beer drinkers.
“Yeah, we have everyone from burly men come in and give it a taste and tell us they love it,” he said.
“We have eight different beers on tap, including a honeycream beer that’s made with 30kg of honey (per brew).”
Harajuku Gyosa Beer Stadium, Australia’s first Japanese microbrewery, has been set up at The Oasis shopping centre.
The Yoyogi Pink Dragon Fruit beer is brewed inside one of the microbrewery’s four 1200 litre tanks.
It is also packed with strawberries, vanilla and huell melon, a new hop variety direct from Germany.
So ... it’s basically a health drink.
The beer is available while stocks last for $9 a schooner.
