FAST RAIL FOR ALL

PLANS for a fast-rail network linking Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, which LNP advocates say are backed by all the party’s Queensland federal MPs, ignore the state’s tourism powerhouse – the Gold Coast – and its transport nightmare.

A fast-rail network has to do more than prop up one or two seats in the Sunshine Coast area.

It should be for all of southeast Queensland, from the Gold Coast through Brisbane to Noosa and west to Toowoomba.

If indeed the LNP is serious, its Gold Coast MPs should be leading the charge in a campaign to deliver fast and efficient transport alternatives to the M1 and the existing crowded and slow train ride to Brisbane.

We know Federal Trade and Tourism Minister Steve Ciobo has floated the potential of a high-speed Gold CoastBrisbane link with Chinese investors.

A fast train service crisscrossing the greater southeast would be a major turning point in the state’s fortunes.
