KUDOS FOR ROBBIE ON NEW LEVEL

- STEPHANIE BENNETT

MARGOT Robbie is quickly proving she is much more than just another Hollywood actor.

The Gold Coast star has been receiving widespread praise for her role in I, Tonya, even picking up a Critics’ Choice Award for best actress in a comedy this month.

But at yesterday’s Producers Guild of America Awards in Los Angeles, it was her filmmaking credentials for which she and her co-producers were honoured after their independent film became one of the surprise hits of the awards season.

Robbie produced I, Tonya – out this week in Australia – with husband Tom Ackerley, Bryan Unkeless and Steven Rogers, who also wrote the script.

Nominated in the category for top feature film I, Tonya ultimately lost to Guillermo del Toro’s fantasy flick The Shape of Water.

Hitting the red carpet, Robbie was her usual stunning self in a slim-fitting black gown with a jewelled halter. At yesterday’s breakfast panel ahead of the awards, she candidly told the crowd she loved the I, Tonya script before even realising it was a true story.

But she has no time to rest after yesterday’s awards – Robbie is to attend the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles today, where she is in the running for most outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role.

Although Saoirse Ronan is tipped to win for her role in Lady Bird, Robbie’s Critics’ Choice Award could shake up the race.
