Cocaine haul, four held
FOUR men accused of trying to smuggle 30kg of cocaine into Brisbane will remain in custody following brief court appearances.
Mark Dumenil, Hashanth Kulatunge and Columbian brothers Giovani and Wilmar Buitrago Aguilar allegedly stashed about 100 packets of drugs in the structural rail of a shipping container and were arrested when two of the group tried to retrieve the cache after it was delivered on Friday.
ABF officers detected the cocaine 10 days earlier and allowed the container to reach its destination.
All four men have been charged with importing and possessing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, an offence that carries a maximum of life imprisonment.
They did not apply for bail on Saturday and are due to return to court on February 4.
