WHAT a joke, billions for fast train to Sunshine Coast when M1 Robina to Tugun is a carpark most days, heavy rail to Coolangatta promised 10 years ago doesn't exist and planning for stage 3B light rail to airport and Coolangatta evaporated. Politicians don’t give a bugger about the Southern Gold Coast. Graeme Burger

Yet again the Gold Coast federal LNP MP’s do nothing for the Gold Coast. High-speed train could have helped M1 problems but looks like another 3 years of LNP being on gravy train while ignoring their electorates. Ciobo, Langbroek and Crusifalli are a joke. jk

Ken wade. You forgot to mention that NSW is run by the LNP and has been for a while. And yes their courts are very lenient on drink drivers. jk

Good to see all the LNP people with their fake news whining about Comm Games traffic. All tradies will be on highway at 5.30am way before people are heading to events. Funny how the let’s build it groups are the ones whining about the Games and the exposure it will give GC.

Re: Sport of Kings – Frank well I definitely wouldn't rate tennis as the sport of kings. Surfing was very much said to be the sport of kings in its pioneering days. Radish

Have the Games organisers planned anything if we have 2 weeks of solid rain during these Games. Then we will definitely have an M1 disaster. GK, Pac Pines

Well done Craig Dight for protesting the sentencing of one punch coward Caleb Maraku, a few months in jail may wipe the smirk off this coward's face. Let us band together to ensure our young people can enjoy a night out to just have fun. Noting that Mr Caleb was already banned from Surfers should attract a penalty. Kerry Foley.

Why don't we have Aust Day 2 Jan Queen Bday 3 Jan Labor Day 4 Jan Anzac Day 5 Jan and cover all holidays in one week and let’s get on and do some work for a change. Zodia

Hate the grunting tennis players .

The biggest turn off for many, re republic, is Peter Fitzsimons in his stupid red bandana!

Finally, a reasonably fair analysis (GCB 20/1) of the Trump presidency, which is genuinely making a failed America great again. Go Donald.

Hey, the Kiwis must be stoked. Paying their PM a

quarter mill per annum to have a baby, while the deputy runs the country. Has she even done anything yet. Hilarious.

Finally someone who wants to do what is right, Kerry Foley a real man who is willing to hand out some justice to one punch pinhead Caleb. After that bout he should get the judges in the ring and knock some sense into them too. I hope Caleb’s girlfriend is there to take selfies of him on his back on the canvas. The Mad Rooster

Mann, you've done it again mate! Bloody ripper of a cartoon in Saturday’s paper! Rescue drones to drop pink bicycles to gridlocked tradies during the Commonwealth Games!. Best yet!

Reckon we are mature enough to go alone? Just look at the place, we’re not capable of being left for a weekend, let alone a republic! Once our ‘powers that be’ can show any maturity, then let’s talk.

Visited the Tugun skateboard park this week with my grandsons 8 & 6. My grandsons loved it so much we went two days in a row. The most amazing thing was the confidence the boys got from observing the other riders and by the time we left they were not afraid of tackling bigger ramps. The older kids very respectful of the little ones. A fantastic family friendly place to spend a few hours. Maybe I’ll get to look after them a bit more now.

Noting court reports of recent times it appears that judge Katherine McGuinness has taken over from Bernadette Callaghan as the criminalfriendly judge, wholly suspended sentences and immediate parole the order of the day. Robert

Ha ha, me too Deb (not THAT #metoo!), and the other person who wrote in. We can still remember the thrill of a wolf whistle, a pat on the bottom, a compliment ... Ahhh ... the good old days. These days they wouldn’t last 5 minutes in the middle of Rome! Queenie

To the chap who wants to let his house out for $3000 pw for the Games and hoping for volunteers to rent, don't think the volunteers have that sort of money mate! Tell him he’s dreaming.

Love the idea of reusable straws, but have people forgotten, or not learnt, the art of drinking from a glass?

Tiahleigh Palmer, your justice will come. You are not forgotten, your spirit is loved by many.

Sydney boxer Kerry Foley saying that he won't go hard on the cowardly one-punch pratt Caleb Maraku, you bloody better go hard mate!
