Prices rise on public transport

-

COMMUTERS have been slugged with higher fare prices after Translink’s new ticket prices came into effect yesterday.

TransLink head Matthew Longland said the 1.5 per cent price rise was in line with the Brisbane Consumer Price Index (CPI) and applied to fares for all modes of public transport in South East Queensland.

He said the new prices will see most commuters pay between an extra 5c and 12c.

Mr Longland said the change reflected the increased cost of providing transport services such as wages, fuel, and vehicle costs.

“Even with the modest CPI rise, fares in Queensland will still be cheaper than they were in 2014,” he said.

Mr Longland said the cost of a 1 zone adult go card journey had increased by 5c to $3.25.

“The same trip was $3.35 back in November 2014,” he said.

A 4 zone journey has increased by 12c to $7.97.

“For commuters travelling between 5 and 8 zones, the fare rise will be between 15c and 29c,” Mr Longland said.
