-

THE Gold Coast Turf Club will host the first Chinesethemed race day in southeast Queensland next month.

The event, to be held on Saturday, February 17, will be hosted by naming-rights partner Aquis that is owned by Hong Kong billionaire Tony Fung.

Fung’s wife Loretta is a part-owner of Sunlight who won the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 13.

Gold Coast Turf Club CEO Steve Lines said it would help continue to foster the growing relationship the club has slowly built with the Chinese community.

“The international and cultural focus of the day will enhance the growing ties between the Australian and Chinese racing and tourism industries,” Lines said.

“Aquis has strong links to Asia through Hong Kong and the Chinese racing industry is going from strength to strength.

General admission for the Chinese-themed race day will be free.
