Killer on run after lawyer shot dead

- ASHLEIGH GLEESON AND SALLY RAWSTHORNE

POLICE were last night mounting a massive manhunt for the gunman who shot dead a prominent lawyer in a cafe in broad daylight in front of hundreds of horrified witnesses in Bankstown’s bustling CBD.

Lawyer Ho Ledinh, 65, was with another man at Bankstown City Plaza’s busy Happy Cup cafe, which he is understood to have business ties to, just after 3.30pm yesterday when his brazen killer pumped up to four shots into his torso.

A graphic social media video showed Ledinh lying on his side on the footpath outside the cafe in a pool of blood. The video shows police and passers-by attempting to revive him using CPR and mouth-tomouth, but he died of his injuries. Separate CCTV footage of the suspected shooter before the killing showed a man wearing a hi-vis jacket walking through Bankstown’s Old Centre Plaza.

Several witnesses claimed the assailant shot Ledinh and then ran away.

“He was shot three times,” one witness, who asked not to be named, said.

“I saw him out of breath and people doing CPR. (The killer) ran towards the train station.”

Bankstown LAC Inspector Brad Thorne said the motivation was as yet unclear.
