RELAY ROUNDS THE STREETS OF CAPITAL

THE Queen’s Baton will be celebrated on the streets of Canberra tomorrow, commencing its official relay around Australia.

Set to be carried by more than 70 batonbeare­rs through the nation’s capital, the Queen’s Baton will visit the Australian Institute of Sport and Australian War Memorial before Australia Day festivitie­s on Friday.

Household names ready to carry the Baton in Canberra include Robert de Castella, Michelle Payne and Ben Roberts-Smith.

The Queen’s Baton Relay will then head inland through Wagga Wagga, Parkes, Orange, Dubbo and up to Coffs Harbour before making its way down the coast to Sydney.

The Relay will progress through each state and territory before its arrival in Queensland on March 3.

It will spend 33 days in the host state on its way to the Opening Ceremony.
