EYES ON OLD RIVAL
QUEENSLAND boxer Liam Wilson has a dream. It is a GC2018 gold medal bout against England’s Luke McCormack in the 64kg division at Oxenford Studios on Saturday, April 14.
The Caboolture 21-yearold will make his Commonwealth Games debut as part of a 13-strong boxing team to compete at GC2018.
Wilson is a five-time Australian champion, nine-time Queensland champion and six-time Australian golden glove winner.
But it’s gold at the Commonwealth Games that Wilson desires and a bout against McCormack to realise that dream.
“I met McCormack when I was 15 in Kazakhstan and we did sparring together and he punched the heck out of me, he really bashed me,” Wilson said.
“It was a good thing, he’s always stuck in my mind and I’ve watched him ever since.”
Wilson has been training and studying hard in preparation for GC2018.
“They are not expecting me but I’m expecting them. I’ve been watching these guys since I was 15,” he said.
